It’s a new year…AGAIN! How does that happen? Time goes by faster and faster every year. Is it because there is still so many things I want to do and the time I have left is less and less?
That sounds morbid, I know. Don’t mean to start the new year out on a down note but let’s be real, life is short. It may not seem like it in the everyday ticking of the clock but it doesn’t stop. As The Steve Miller Band so aptly stated, ” Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking into the future.”
I do hope you’re ringing in of the new year was more exciting than mine was. I started off the last day of 2013 in the seat of an oral surgeon’s office. I had a tooth extracted. There is truth, I have proven, in the dentist’s statement that if you don’t put a crown on the tooth with a root canal, there is a greater possibility the tooth will crack and you may possibly lose the tooth. True story my friends, true story indeed.
The last day of 2013 was spent, for me, on the couch, taking ibuprofen and hydrocodone every four hours, while biting on gauze as needed, and slipping in and out of a buzzed feeling, along with countless catnaps, time on the computer and reading. I did have the pleasure of the company of two of my children and my husband while watching the minutes tick by into the new year.
2013 was a good year overall, with all the joys, sorrows and everything else that life has to offer. I intend to enjoy 2014 just as much. I don’t know what awaits, the positive or negative, but I do know there will be both, and I know too that joy can be found in the midst of it all.
Happy New Year, dear friends. May you find joy in the next 365 days, as you experience the many bumps along the way.
