They say talk is cheap. We say talking is important to any relationship. You have to learn to communicate on intimate levels if you want to achieve a deep and meaningful relationship with your spouse.
Here are a 5 relationship questions that help build intimacy. It takes a lot of practice to get it right, but no worries, you have the rest of your lives.
1. Tell me what helped to make you feel good about you today?
When you ask your spouse this question and really listen, you will have the awesome privilege of helping them celebrate events that are important to them. We all need people in our lives to celebrate us.
2. What happened today to make you feel alone?
This may seem like an awkward question to ask, and a hard one to answer, however, if you are both able to do so, the opportunity for true intimacy will begin to grow and so will your relationship.
3. What are some things you need from me to help you feel loved and appreciated?
This is an important question to ask when trying to connect and become more intimate with your spouse. Discover how they feel appreciated and love. A great way to learn to do this can be found in reading the book The 5 Love Languages which I mentioned in: 5 Relationship Killers
4. What are you liking best about our relationship lately?
How awesome would it be to become so transparent with your spouse that you make this a priority in your relationship? If you begin to treat the relationship as an entity unto itself, you will experience an intimacy most people only dream about.
5. What have you done this week to take care of yourself?
Self-care is so very important. If you don’t love yourself and treat yourself with respect, you can’t love others; and further more, you won’t incite others to love you either, not the way you deserve to be loved. Like attracts like. That’s a natural law.
6. What are some important issues to you that we need to discuss? (Bonus!)
At the end of the day, you need to be able to ask these important questions, and answer them, too, no matter how hard and uncomfortable it might seem at first.Keep at it!
All of these things may be awkward at first, but over time it will start to feel more natural and will soon become second nature to you both. Then you’ll do it like a boss!
