I recently started rereading Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson. How can every word be underline-worthy?! Mark shared one of his favorite scriptures which is Proverbs 16:9 “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps”.
Mark talked about how God arranges divine appointments for us, but he stressed that it is our job to keep them. He said: “Only God can make the appointment, but only you can keep the appointment. It’s your job to recognize and respond to the God-ordained opportunities that come your way”. I like that God is that interested in our lives. I like that the huge, overwhelming, stop-me-in-my-tracks problems that I have encountered in my life, aren’t a big deal to God!
As I read Day 2 in Draw the Circle, it struck me that all of the things I was reading were true! But here’s the thing, and it’s a big thing…God will help us do our parts too. Did you catch that? He not only does what He deems to be His part, but He is able and willing to help us do ours if we need Him to.
Do you need Him to?
I often find myself in need of His help to do my part. I often ask Him to help me do those things that are too big for me to do alone, even if they seem small to everybody else. They are small to God, but they aren’t too small. Nothing is too big and nothing is too small for Him.
I’m not sure why but it seems like there is an unspoken rule in Christian circles, that we have to do our part all by ourselves. Where did we get that idea? As a parent, especially when my kids were young, I asked them to do things and expected them to complete the tasks. But, as a parent, if I knew my child was struggling to do what they were told to do, and that they were legitimately in need of some assistance, I was all in.
I love my kids!
God loves us more!
God will do His part for sure, and He wants us to do ours, but if we need His help to do those things we can’t, I’m pretty sure He’s all in too.
