It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
I attended my first ever blogging conference, # Bloggycon13, last weekend. The conference was located at Cedar Point Amusement Park. The park was great! The conference was amazing! But there was some disappointments. Here are the highlights.
My husband, my daughter, my 21 year old son and his girlfriend, and my 17 year old son and his girlfriend joined me in traveling to Cedar Point on Friday. I’m not sure why we decided to simply get in the car and let the GPS guide us along our merry way instead of at least checking a map before we left. We would have been better prepared for the 100 or so miles off the interstate.
Because we were unprepared, we sort of miscalculated our arrival time and were running a bit behind schedule. That is why, I suppose, my dear husband got a speeding ticket…he was trying to get me there on time. Yay Hubs! Boo ticket.
I’m not even going to elaborate on the State Trooper or the specs on how this came down. It seemed a little fishy-ish She was…nice?
While we were sitting there I snapped a pic and my people said you’re not going to blog about this are you? Uh…duh. As we pulled away I turned to my kids and their friends and said, “And that boys and girls is how NOT to spend $110”.
We were also unprepared for our first time to explore the park… in the dark. It seemed really dark Friday night. Perhaps because it was Halloweekend and was supposed to be scary? We’ll go with that.
Saturday was great…sort of. The actual sessions were informative. The Swag Bag was full of goodies….and my #hondalove bear! Meeting so many online faces in person was awesome sauce.
But meanwhile back at the ranch, or the cabin we were staying in (a very small cabin that accommodated 8 how? with only one bathroom and a loft for two but only on your knees), my youngest son and his girlfriend were sick…as in they couldn’t enjoy the rides (coasters) they had been looking forward to riding. They were unable to eat for the most part. It wasn’t much fun for those who had to stay behind to chaperone either. Don’t get me wrong, I felt sorry for them. It was difficult to be in the cabin hearing the sounds of coaster, and screams, and the bands playing just outside our door and not be able to partake. For all of us.
The cozy cabin.
The loft, the son.
Beautiful sunset on Lake Erie.
This ride was mesmerizing at night and scenic during the day.
Love me some Cedar Point!
So we headed home early Sunday morning and I missed the last sessions that ended at noon. 🙁
My first blogging conference was great. The weekend…not so much.
Abandoning the everyday life in your native country and rushing to the trip around the world with all your savings must be a cherished dream for most of us. A modern city life is exhausting, tense, and meaningless. It is not surprising we wish to go on a long running trip inspired by someone’s incredible experience.
norwalk huron county fair recently posted…Hello world!
What a bummer! But also that you had a good attitude about and the conference was good. I do feel bad for your son and his girlfriend–being sick on vacation makes it even worse. Stopping by from The SITS Girls!
The conference was great. Sorry for the kids. Thanks for visiting.
AH man!! That just STINKS that illness had to hit THEN!! Bummer. Such a darn bummer. But I am glad you got to get in a few session and take in the sights on Saturday! I hope someday I will meet you at a conference… wouldn’t that be wonderful?? 🙂
I loved the sessions I was able to attend. I hope we do meet! I’m going to Minneapolis in October to Bloggy Boot Camp. Then I’m finished until next year.
