I just returned from a trip to Washington with my mom and brother. Did I tell you we met Debbie Macomber in Port Orchard?
Washington is a beautiful state with many natural sights to see, and we saw a few, however, I gotta tell you, meeting Debbie Macomber was the highlight of the trip!
Let me back up a little to where this story really begins. Back in June by dad fell off of a ladder and broke his hip.
Never mind that he is 83 years old and shouldn’t have been on the ladder in the first place.
Never mind that he has 2 sons, a son-in-law and 2 grandsons who are able and willing to help him do the things that are a little more difficult these days.
Never mind the fact that he wanted his gutters cleaned NOW!
He broke his hip.
After a stay in the hospital, rehab and in-home assistance, my dad is back to his regular life again…but…BUT…the vacation he and my mom had planned to visit the Pacific Northwest were laid to rest once he hit the pavement.
The trip that I was going to drive them on. Yeah, THAT trip!
One of the stops on the itinerary was Port Orchard, the small town where Debbie Macomber resides and based her ever-popular Cedar Cove books on, which has since been made into a Hallmark channel series.
My parents are fans of the show, and my mother and I have read all of Debbie’s book, including Cedar Cove.
I connected with Debbie on the wonderful World Wide Web and eventually told her this story. She so generously invited us to stop by her offices for a tour given by her and be introduced to her staff before taking us to lunch when we were in the area. That, she said was an offer we couldn’t refuse, and I totally agreed.
The next thing you know, given my love of travel, my brother had helped me book a flight to Washington and our vacation was put into action.
My dad sadly declined to go. He thought it would be better on him to stay at home, though he encouraged my mom to have at it!
We visited Debbie at her office and met her amazing staff (which includes her two daughters, and a lovely assistant) and she took us to lunch in the cozy, quaint Victorian Tea Room.
My mother and I had a delightful time as we dined on delicious sandwiches and chatted with Debbie like we were old friends.
Debbie is so down to earth, making us feel very comfortable in her presence. We asked her questions, talked about family and listened as she told us how her success as a writer has unfolded in her life.
Debbie’s story is one of inspiration.
Debbie is a delightful person who deserves the success she has experienced while using the gift of story telling that God gave her.
I will continue to read everything Debbie writes, whether fiction or non, or storybooks for children.
She is a gifted writer and a treasure to all who know her.
I will cherish the time spent with Debbie and my vacation to Seattle, Washington with my mom and brother~
