Just wanted to follow up from my post Doing the Hard Thing. I did it and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, it sort of went how I expected, from the one ‘friend’ anyway.
I went to the meeting. She went out of her way to come over to where I was sitting and ask me a question related to basketball. Nothing was mentioned of the last remark she made about contacting me. Nothing was mentioned at all about what my family has experienced in the past 15 months. Business as usual, I guess. That’s okay with me. At least I know what I’ve got…very little, relationship-wise, or so it seems and again, I’m okay with that.
The other ‘friend’ wasn’t at the “Mandatory Parent’s Meeting”. Guess it wasn’t quite so mandatory after all. Not to fret, however. Tomorrow is the first scrimmage and I will be there. I suspect she will too. Let’s get it all out in the open, I say. Knowledge is a good thing. I want to know where I stand.
I spend my Wednesdays chasing after a two year old, a very active, cute and funny two year old, for about 7 hours, unless of course, she takes a nap, which then makes it about 5 1/2 chasing hours. Last week she didn’t take a nap! My son is taking classes at a cottage school and I am the on site nanny in exchange for his tuition. It’s a win/win situation, albeit a very tiring win on my side.
She is talking some, as two year olds so sweetly do. There are a few words and phrases that rank among the most used. “Whoa” being one of them. This is a go-to word for a variety of situations. It is quite cute. “It’s stuck” is another such word. It actually sounds more like “is tuck” when she says it, and she says it a lot.
More often than not, the object that she is trying to get to is truly not stuck. There is generally something standing in the way that simply needs to be removed.
I feel that way in this situation with my once upon a time friends. I felt stuck. I don’t want to feel that way any longer so I’m ready to take the bull by the horns and see what I come up with. I may come up empty handed. It appears that way from Thursday’s experience. Again, I’m good with that.
Again, at least I know what I’ve got.
I will end this post with a quote by Thomas Jefferson: Friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life.
It’s good to have friends and better still to know who they are…
Thanks for sharing. Relationships can be tough.
And thank you for the award. I am honored.
Adult friendships are often much harder than childhood friendships. I’ve had run-ins with “friends” OVER our kids’ sports…we’re still “friendly” but not like we were. At least you know what the deal is now and if you want to avoid them, ignore them…by all means, do it! It’s hard, I know. Some people are just better off not having those types of people in their lives.
