According to History.com: Labor Day, an annual celebration of workers and their achievements, originated during one of American labor history’s most dismal chapters. In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out a basic living. Despite restrictions in some states, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories and mines across the country, earning a fraction of their adult counterparts’ wages. We’ve come a long way, baby!
Yesterday was The rivalry football game in these parts. The University of Louisville vs. The University of Kentucky. The game pretty much played out the way it was predicted to. I was impressed with the fans…both sides…especially UK. They were very gracious with their comments, or lack thereof. And I didn’t really see or hear any obnoxious smack talk by the Uof L fans after the win. But then again, basketball season hasn’t started yet!
We spent six hours at a car lot on Saturday. Pretty much the whole day. We walked (or drove) away with a new car. Not exactly what I wanted but the deal was right, and it was a good move for the fam. Kudos to Bob Montgomery Honda, the general manager, Paul was good at his job, George was extremely competent and a pleasure to work with, and the salesman (the man we’ve spent countless hours with) Bill Cline, a top-notch salesman. He says they call him “Pit Bull”, and the name definitely fits. Thanks guys!
On Sunday we visited my aunt who is in the hospital…again, and spent a few hours talking with my cousin and his wife. It was quite enjoyable even if it was in a hospital room. I love to visit with my aunt and wish I could do so more often.
I will never get over the feelings of awe when I see my kids participate in an act of worship…any act. Yesterday our youngest son who plays bass on the youth worship team at Southeast Christian Church, debuted his mandolin on one song. Of course the hubs and I just had to attend. It is an amazing thing they do in that hour and a half. Inspiring. I am thankful that my son has the opportunity to be involved with such a great group of people.
Here’s hoping you had a very enjoyable Labor Day weekend.
A rich weekend indeed
