Day 32 of 40 Days of Lent
Today’s scripture is a great reminder of why we celebrate this Easter season. It’s really not about candy, bunnies and eggs. Mark 11:9 says “And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
It’s no accident, however, that this celebration of life takes place in the spring when everything wakes up and begins the cycle of growing again, in splendor and glory, after a long, stifling winter.
Jesus is like spring. He brings new life, but not just during a particular season of the year; it is an invitation that is always open and available, which never expires, to those who are willing to accept Him.
Easter is a celebration of life, not death, though His death was an intentional, brutal and necessary act. Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey, hailed as the King of Kings! Knowing in His heart that in a very short time those same people would be chanting His name; not because of His glory, but chanting for Him to be put to death.
A necessary act indeed.
Out of love for you and me.
The greatest gift of all.
Life from His death.
