I Love to Travel

I love to travel. I don’t care if it’s a day trip to Podunk, Kentucky. I like nothing better than to get in a car and head to a place away from home, preferably someplace I’ve never been. There’s just something about a trip.

I recently took a different kind of trip. In case you haven’t heard the news, I flew for the first time in my life, and I’ve been around for a decade or two. I survived the not-as-bad-as-I-expected security check, and I did okay choosing what I wanted to take and stuffing it all in a carry-on bag. Just between us, I took three pairs of shoes for a two day conference. I ended up not wearing one pair at all. This is why I drive when I travel. Old habits die hard.

After the shock of losing my phone in the airport before boarding my very first flight, I enjoyed the trip. We flew from Kentucky to Baltimore. I’m sure there is logic to the flight-planning madness, but we were headed to San Diego. It was a 5 1/2 hour flight from Baltimore, again, I’m sure there is form of logic in the planning.

There’s not a lot to do on a cramped plane but talk to your neighbors, read, listen/watch something on one of your electronic devices  nap, or all of the above. I was seated between my blogger friend and an alfalfa farmer from the San Diego area. 5,000 acres is a little bigger than the tobacco farm my grandparents owned.

My friend and I flew to California for a blogging conference (she is a seasoned flyer which gave me comfort) that took place in San Diego, a place I’ve always wanted to visit. We couldn’t land in San Diego because of “deteriorating weather conditions” and we needed fuel so we headed to LA where we sat in the plane for an hour, which made us late so we missed the first two sessions of the conference. 🙁  Note to self: always book a day before.

Next up, The Bahia Resort in San Diego.

Can’t wait to hear about the conference! I’ll be driving to VA this weekend…6 hour drive for me solo. I haven’t driven that far in a really long time.

I drive to Jacksonville to visit a friend every January. I do so alone and I love it. It’s quiet time to listen to music or Books (Bible) on CD. A very inspiring time. I look forward to the drive almost as much as the visit with my friend. Hope you enjoy your trip and safe travels to you!

Oh yes. Traveling…it’s kind of amazing. It does fuel our stories, though. Yes, always give yourself an extra day! Especially for blog conferences..

Congratulations on your first flight. It’s amazing you kept a good attitude considering you lost your phone (yikes!) and got delayed. I kind of prefer taking my car too so I have all my stuff and the freedom to move when I want.
