Day 21 of 40 Days of Lent
What is mercy anyway? It’s not a word we use much these days. It’s not something we are in need of…
The definition of Mercy, according to Merriam-Webster is: kind or forgiving treatment of someone who could be treated harshly.
Jesus is the giver of ultimate mercy.
The scripture for today comes from Mark 6:14: …Jesus’ name had become known. Some said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”
John the Baptist came before Jesus, telling of His ultimate mercy and about all that would transpire during the short time Jesus was on the earth as Man.
John’s life ended one night, horrifically so, when King Herod promised his stepdaughter whatever she wanted, and she proclaimed, “The head of John the Baptist”.
Jesus was moved with compassion and mercy, not just for His dear friend John, but for all who would believe in Him, that day and in all the days to follow.
We all need mercy. Only Jesus can give ultimate mercy, and He did, once and for all; when He chose to go to the cross and bear the sins of those who had lived and who would live after His death.
Are you in need of ultimate mercy?
Jesus~
