Why Does This Always Happen to Me?

Conversing with other people is something I truly enjoy. I like sharing thoughts and exchanging ideas on a broad spectrum of subjects. I am a bit perplexed, I must admit.

Why is it that whenever I make the statement that I do not believe in predestination, if someone in the room does, that spend the next chunk of time trying to convince me otherwise? So far no one has achieved that goal.

I just happened to mention this paticular belief of mine in a recent conversation I was having with some friends. One of the women spoke up and said that she does believe in predestination. That’s okay with me. I know lots of people who do. I don’t try to convince them otherwise or even share much of why I believe the way I do. But I need to get this off my chest.

I believe that God gave us free will. I don’t believe that everything that happens to us happens because God predistined it to be, or that He “allowed it” to happen. Sometimes things happen because we make really stupid decisions or choices. I am a walking, living example of that.

I am the first to admit that I have grown so very much because of these life lessons and that God can use them for good. He is a redeemer afterall. Could I have learned the same lessons another way? I don’t know the answer to that question.

My friend said to me that she believes in free will and she believes in God’s sovereignty. I concur. God is sovern and could do anything He chooses. This is where we differ. She believes that free will is within the bounds of His sovereignty. His
